Education

The Ecology of Bird Loss project works with teachers and students in local K-12 schools and universities in a variety of manners.
  • Marianas Island Forest EcologyThe NSF Research Experience for Teachers program has funded six teachers from local middle and high schools to participate in field research for a summer alongside EBL field crews, and to produce curriculum focused on bringing field ecology into the classroom. Check out our education website here.
  • Island Ecology Course. We have conducted two immersion field courses focused on the ecology and conservation of island ecosystems - the first was in 2012 and the second in 2015. A total of 28 students from the Northern Marianas College on Saipan, Guam Community College, and the University of Guam have participated in the courses. Our next course focused on forest ecology will be in May-June 2018.
  • School presentations. If you are a teacher from Guam, Saipan, Tinian, or Rota, and you would like to arrange a school presentation on Marianas Island Forest Ecology, please contact Morgan Franke at ecologyofbirdloss at gmail.com
